What a month it has been! I finally am feeling better and have spent most of my waking hours planning a year's worth of school assignments for everyone. (I've never planned out the whole year for history and literature before school began, and I must say, it feels really good!) Of course everything else around this house has fallen apart in the meantime...
We have now officially completed our first week of 4th grade, 2nd grade, and Kindergarten in our homeschool. Here were the books (for the first week of school, at least) on our "school cart"...And here were the excited students, on the morning of the first day!
I never knew how excited simple spiral notebooks would make my girls, especially with their names and subjects written on them in cute handwriting. (Last year we used all looseleaf paper.) And they just LOVE their new assignment notebooks with everything all laid out for them (gee, I wonder whose children they are...) And of course there's nothing like schooling in bare feet!
We are also excited to have been invited to join a new startup Christian homeschool group that is forming in our area for field trips, parties, and simple classes. The two founding ladies have been considering this for a year or so and felt that now was the time to begin. It comes at a great time for us, as we have sadly had to part ways from our group of the past four years and were looking for some new opportunities. Luckily, many of the families signing up for the new group are folks we've known for some time. The Lord provides!

I am so glad you are feeling better! Sounds like you guys are off to a good start! I am very happy you found a new homeschool group! God Bless!
You're ahead of me. We haven't been schooling very much the last couple of weeks. I'm ready to get back in the groove soon though!
Your kids are looking soo grown up!
I'm glad you are feeling better. Hugs to you, my friend!
Yay! I love your homeschooling cart. Assigment notebooks rock! We only use looseleaf for tests (a little boring fact). I love school. We'll look back 4 weeks from now and laugh at ourselves as we say, "How much long til' fall break?" Smooch.
Oh, my word verification for today is "rexlbl". Looks kinda like rebel X, doesn't it? Hmmm.
I mean "How much LONGER til' fall break?" Don't get your red pen out yet! Smooch.
Where can I get a cool cart like that?
Well, here is a link to the cart, but it appears to have gone up in price quite a bit:

It is not cheap -- it is heavy duty steel all saudered together. Think of the book trolleys at the library. (The "assembly" they mention is putting on the wheels.)
It was expensive when I purchased it, as well, but at the time it fit in a closet I have right off the kitchen and allowed us to do all our school there without outfitting a "schoolroom". I agonized over it, but my husband said go for it.
Since then, we have set up a separate schoolroom, but the cart is still nice as it sits close to the work table. It also accepts magnetic bookends, which are great for keeping workbooks, etc. from tipping over.
Duh... soldered, not saudered (above).
Can you tell I've been looking at Sauder brand bookcases online?
